Breath Alcohol Testing

Employee Breath Alcohol Testing

In the 1940s, breath alcohol testing devices were first developed for use by police. In 1954, Dr. Robert Borkenstein of the Indiana State Police invented the Breathalyzer. They work because the concentration of alcohol in the alveolar air in the lungs is related to the concentration of the alcohol in the blood since alcohol is absorbed into the organs. Breath alcohol tests are therefore a quick and efficient alternative to blood tests that can be performed on the spot. In safety sensative industries the use of breath alcohol testers protects individual workers, teams and the public; just as police protect the roads from dangerous drunk drivers employers have a responsiblity to ensure employees are always working at their peak with the help of accurate and efficient testing hardware.
